ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Illinois Valley YMCA Preschool Programs

Your tiny tyke will love these classes! Warm, caring, patient teachers will promote growth in all areas.

Caring teachers lead a class – just for 2 year olds – that is filled with fun and socialization. Activities are designed to satisfy curiosity and to help develop fine and gross motor skills.

It is not necessary to be toilet trained; however, we do not change diapers.

For additional information, visit the Education & Child Care page.

Y Preschool is a complete program with experienced teachers and extras like tumbling, swimming and gym time. This class offers just what your 3-4 year old needs – a class that provides readiness skills such as color/shape recognition, counting, an introduction to the alphabet and fine & gross motor skills implemented through age-appropriate activities.

For additional information, visit the Education & Child Care page.

SWIM, SPORTS & PLAY

Competitive Swimming & Sports

Winning means different things to different people. To some, it’s bringing home the blue ribbon or the gold metal. To us, it is many things, like learning to do a good flip turn, learning to do a start off the blocks, swimming better and faster when the race is over no matter how you performed that day.

It is our goal that during your time on the ILVY Dolphin Swim Team you will not only learn more about swimming and all that is involved, but you will also learn more about yourself. Swimming is not just a sport, it is a learning experience.

For more information, visit the Dolphin Swim Team page or the Swim Team website.

For Youth Development

“I cannot thank the Illinois Valley Y enough. My wife was having a rough patch with her health, which required a great deal of my attention. We applied for a scholarship to defray some of our monthly expenses. The Y was a great outlet for my children to come and relieve energy in the gyms, but also be a positive environment. We are able to participate in many activities, such as camps, sports programs, swim lessons and, the most fun of all, the Family Nights. The Y’s scholarship program helped us at our most desperate time.”

For Healthy Living

Every year, hundreds of Y volunteers help friends and neighbors in their community. From coaches to campaigners, every volunteer is making a difference.

“After falling and breaking my hip, I applied for a scholarship at the Y. Therapy was through, but I knew there was a long road ahead of me. Having a membership helped me continue my exercises I learned in therapy, but also enjoyed the warm water therapy pool. Being a Mendota resident, I was thrilled to utilize both facilities.”

For Social Responsibility

“Being a single mom with tween aged children is hard. They always asked to go to the Y with their friends, so I decided to apply for a scholarship to help with membership and program costs. Since joining, we have enjoyed many advantages of being Y members. We are now a healthier family since I can come workout and the kids can participate in the basketball or volleyball programs, swimming on the weekends, Family Nights, and the Parents Night Out program.”

Child Abuse Prevention Committee

Last fall, YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) launched enhanced Child Abuse Prevention tools and resources to strengthen support for YMCAs to galvanize the culture, practices and behavior needed to prevent child sexual abuse. We are working together with Praesidium to assess their existing policies and practices, enhance them where possible and develop a plan to sustain a culture of abuse prevention.

For further information contact the Praesidium Guardian, head of our Child Abuse Prevention Committee, Casey Loving.
